THE SHRINE OF BUDGIE!
A PRINCESS AMONG PARAKEETS - A HELLUVA BIRD!
On March 12, 1977 I strolled into my neighborhood
Woolworth (I was only 10 at the time), and was fortunate enough to be blessed
by God with the most wonderful feathered friend any human ever had.
It was on this day that I acquired Budgie, my first parakeet.
Budgie was my best friend in the entire universe during what are probably the most
difficult years for all of us - those early adolescent days. Whenever I needed it most,
she always provided a feather for me to lean on. Budgie went to to her final resting
place some 15 years ago, leaving a gaping hole in my heart which will never be filled.
This shrine is presented in loving memory of the noblest bird who ever
hatched - BUDGIE! Long gone, but NEVER forgotten! Posted live to the WEB on
March 12, 1997 - the 20th Anniversary of the fateful day I picked Budgie out
of the entire swarm of parakeets in Woolworths! I know she's up there in heaven
waiting for me - I just hope I qualify to get in. Budge - I've still got
all my comic books and you can come down and chew the covers off anytime you want!
Every now and then Budgie would chill in the bathroom. One time my mom went in to
answer the call of nature and got this sudden feeling she was being watched.
She looked up, and there was Budgie sitting on the shower rod trying to figure out
what the heck she was doing!

Parakeet Pinball Wizard!
For some strange reason, Budgie loved to hang upside down in the window.
She would hang there for long periods of time, just chillin'.
Budgie preparing to drop the parachutes, or maybe something else!
Budgie fancied herself a typist - once she climbed INSIDE the typewriter and emerged
several minutes later with a very black tongue.
What kind of music made Budgie's feathers ruffle? ELVIS, of course!
You ain't nuthin' but a birddog!
She loved to sit ON her cage, as if to say "Hell, I sure ain't going IN there!"
Wondering where the heck the typewriter went!
Any kind of paper was instant Budgie stomping ground - she left her beak marks
on many of my beloved comic books and any other paper you'd let her near!
